Tax Preparer - Job ID: TP2023-001
Job Description
Position Responsibilities
- Tax preparation for individuals and small businesses using client-provided information and input into electronic tax preparation software.
- Attend continuing education courses to remain aware of changes to forms and new standards for completing tax paperwork
- Create invoices and requests payment for services rendered based upon the level of difficulty and time spent preparing the forms
- Verify tax forms completed by clients to ensure their proper submission
- Properly research and seek the advice of senior preparers when confronted with particularly challenging tax circumstances
- Gather appropriate materials regarding yearly tax tables, instructions and forms to accurately calculate taxes for clients
- Inform clients of important paperwork and documentation needed to complete tax forms properly
- Work closely with clients to obtain personal information regarding potential deductions, educational grants or allowances
- Meet with clients and address their questions and concerns regarding tax forms and paperwork
- Accounting and bookkeeping services
- Establish a professional rapport with clients to increase retention.
Position Qualifications
- Seeking motivated, professional individuals with a minimum of one year of tax preparation experience for both individuals and small businesses
- High school is essential, college-level courses in accounting preferred but not required.
- Keen attention to detail
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
- Professional experience working with confidential and sensitive information
- Knowledge of state and federal tax form processes and how to accurately properly prepare forms for each
- Experience ordering proper tax forms and instruction booklets
- Ability to prioritize daily tasks and meet timely obligations with many clients
- Knowledge of accounting processes and advanced mathematical skills
- Skilled using tax preparation software and experience in troubleshooting common tax program problems
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Superior customer service skills
- Flexibility for evening and weekend work as workload may demand
